It’s hard being a little fella– this guy sized up his next move to surmount the ledge in front of him and get to some better sunshine. The crazy thing is, he did it! Seals are remarkably good at moving around on craggy rocks and outcroppings for only having fins and flippers to work with.

Kaikoura Dolphin Encounter
The most amazing day of my trip to New Zealand came near the end. At 4:30 a.m., my fellow travelers and I arose to walk a short way through town and catch a bus, which brought us to a boat, and took us out to a school of 400+ dusky dolphins. The dolphins swam up alongside you as if you were one of their own, and you were instructed to sing and dive with them to be playful! It was amazing. You aren’t supposed to touch them, but they’re so close to you that you could. I have never felt so in awe as when I was in the water just surrounded by these magnificent animals with their happy songs.
Dusky Dolphins
We woke at 4:30 a.m. this morning to swim with Dusky Dolphins in Kaikoura, NZ, and it was brilliant. We swam right along side them in their pods and played with them by diving down and swimming circles. They loved racing the boats as well!
